We’ve got Boxing Equipment ‘In the Bag!’

On Saturday 7th May, President Angela Robbins, President Elect Mohammed Karim and Secretary and Foundation Chair Cliff Hall went to Tameside Elite Boxing Academy to meet Head Coach and Director Steve Tallo-Brady. Whilst there Tameside Rotary members saw the great work the Boxing Academy do and also have photographs taken with the children and families who attend the academy and the four brown leather Authentic Lonsdale punch bags purchased by Tameside Rotary Club and district 1285 Rotary Foundation Grant. (The Rotary Foundation is the charitable arm of Rotary International and assists many clubs locally and internationally.)

Tameside Rotary Foundation Chair Cliff Hall said ‘We are proud to support the boxing academy as it provides a healthy environment and improves the well-being and behaviour of the children and gives them a different outlook on life as it teaches them the science not violence.’

Tameside Rotary was more than happy to Support Tameside Elite Boxing Academy because aside from promoting diversity and running classes for different age and ability groups Tameside Elite Boxing Academy is a venue with many accredited coaches who train the gym’s competing boxers who hope to be the champions of tomorrow. It hosts England Boxing Championships events but also assists many who get involved for a wider variety of reasons.

Tameside Elite Boxing Academy supports volunteers by assisting them to gain qualifications and become officials in activities such as Refereeing, Judging and Timekeeping. It runs classes leading to accreditations in Child Safety and Welfare, First Aid etc. It also runs courses on Boxing for Fitness, Inclusive Boxing and Coaching and Sports First Aid etc., all at different levels.

On the day we were there a mixed age and ability session was in place with those taking part enjoying a warm up run in the sunshine. Also underway was also a Level 1 Coaching Course and those passing through this accreditation will be going out into clubs and schools in the community promoting fitness and playing an important part in England Boxings aim for ‘Inspiring and Transforming Lives through Boxing’.

Steve emailed shortly after our visit ‘Thanks so much for donating the funds to help us to buy 4 brand new Authentic Lonsdale leather bags. We really appreciate any help you were able to give us, it means a lot and thanks so much for calling to see myself and the lovely kids we bring through the Academy, as they are the real reason we do it and I hope we did you proud showing you some of our lovely kids and their lovely families. Take care and stay safe hope to see you all very soon’

President Angela said ‘The email meant so much to us, everything in it tells of gratitude, love and care and this is quite clearly evident the minute you step into the academy and comes from the kindness and enthusiasm of Steve at the top and permeates through the academy. We wish them every success in the future for the great work they are doing ’
